National Liberal Club

Visit to the National Liberal Club, Whitehall, London

Tuesday 20th May 2025

An opportunity to visit the Home of British Liberalism: www.nlc.org.uk/
Founded in 1882 by William Gladstone, the purpose of the National Liberal Club was to be a bastion for Liberal politics in the UK.  Former members include Prime Ministers, MPs, and many notable literary figures.

Experience the ambience of this historic London club which has now become an inclusive place of political debate, discussion, arts and culture – and a meeting place for our current Lib Dem MPs!

We will have a guided tour of the magnificent building, a talk on Liberal history and afternoon tea on the riverside Terrace.  There will also be free time for you to explore this vibrant part of London (the club is 5 minutes’ walk from Trafalgar Square or the South Bank).

Cost £55 per adult and £35 per child (under 16) including return coach travel from Canterbury. Departs from Canterbury Bus Station at 9.30am, return by 6.00pm.

Places are limited and must be reserved as soon as possible.

Political Discussion Group: Challenging Reform and the far-right narrative

Led by Martin Vye

At 31 Abbey Gardens, Canterbury CT2 7EU

Thursday 22nd May 2025 (7.00pm to 8.30pm)

At our previous meeting on 16th January 2025, our discussion focused on Security, Migration and Economic Growth as three key challenges facing both the EU and the UK in 2025. This was considered in the context of the very real threats to liberal democracies worldwide plus the Climate Emergency.

For our next meeting on 22nd May we will aim to articulate what Lib Dem policies and values mean for the people of Kent and how to challenge the populist/far right narrative.
