Baroness Suttie confirmed as speaker for our 2024 Annual Dinner

Alison Suttie (Baroness Suttie) - a Member of the House of Lords since October 2013, Alison is currently the Liberal Democrat Northern Ireland Spokesperson in the House of Lords and is also a Party Whip. She served on the EU Select Committee in the House of Lords from 2015-19 and the Constitution Committee from 2020-24. Alison was Head of the Liberal Democrat Leader’s office from 2006 to 2010 and was Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Prime Minster (Nick Clegg) for the first 18 months of the Coalition Government from 2010 to 2011. 

In addition to being a working peer, Alison works as an independent consultant in developing parliaments as well as on public health projects around the world. She is a Trustee on the Board of the John Smith Trust and travels and works extensively in the countries of the former Soviet Union. She has worked on projects in Jordan, Iraq, Sudan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tunisia. She also worked on various projects in Ukraine from 2016-19, including in the Ukrainian Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada. 

She has a degree in French and Russian and continues to enjoy speaking both languages.

 

The Annual Dinner is on Friday 1st November 2024 (7.00pm to 10.00pm) at Lower Hardres Village Hall, London Road, Lower Hardres CT4

Alison will speak on the topic of ‘Global Challenges - a Liberal Democrat Approach’.
